Dear Gamers, welcome to the thread to discuss the game chronology of the Legend of Zelda series. This topic is also open to discuss the number of Links there are, other characters and the status of the Ganondorf/Ganon. And most importantly the mighty[glow=orange,2,300]TRIFORCE[/glow]
Here is my rough outline:
Ocarina of Time
-This has been officially stated as the first game in the Legend of Zelda Series.
-This features the first Link; the Hero of Time.
-Ganon, seen in previous games from the Legend of Zelda Series is given a backdrop story as he rises to power in his human form, Ganondorf. Link defeats Ganondorf and his true form is revealed: the pig-like Ganon. After Ganon is defeated he is sealed away by the seven sages in the sacred realm.
-The game takes place in the Kingdom of Hyrule.
Majora's Mask
-In the game it states that the after the events of Ocarina of Time, the Hero of Time has left Hyrule in search of an old friend making it the next game in the series.
-This game is set straight after the Ocarina of Time
-It has the same Link as the one in Ocarina of Time.
-Ganondorf/Ganon is not featured in this game. Instead there is the much more sinister Majora’s Mask.
-The game takes place in Termina.
Twilight Princess
-It has been officially stated by Shigeru Miyamoto that this game is in between the Ocarina of Time and the Wind Waker.
-Furthermore Miyamoto has said in a video featuring game-play that this is the second Link in the game series.
-The plot involing Ganon is unknown at this time, although it has been hinted that he is in Twilight Princess.
-The game takes place in the Land of Hyrule. Note that it is not just the Kingdom, but Hyrule on a much larger scale.
The Wind Waker
-The Wind Waker is set many years after Twilight Princess when the land of Hyrule has been flooded by the Gods in an attempt to prevent Ganon from taking Hyrule when the Hero of Time was not there to stop him.
-Again in the Wind Waker, there is another new Link, sequelling Twilight Princess, this would be the third. The Hero of Winds.
-Somehow in the form of Ganondorf again, the evil sorcorer appears to have brocken the seal that had locked him away previously according to the King of Hyrule, a ghost in the sunken ruins of Hyrule. Ganondorf has the Triforce of Power and obtains both the Triforces of Wisdom and Courage aswell, however the King of Hyrule is able to place his hand on the Triforce first and is granted the wish of the Triforce. Ganondorf is defeated in an epic battle and turns to stone as the Master Sword is embedded in his head.
-This game takes place in the Great Sea, the oceans above the sunken land of Hyrule.
Phantom Hourglass
-It is set only months after the Wind Waker.
-This has the same Link seen in the Wind Waker; the Hero of Winds.
-According to Eiji Aonuma “it is not likely Ganondorf will return in Phantom Hourglass”. However, before his defeat in the Wind Waker, his evil influence spread across the Great Sea. The King of Red Lions will not return in Phantom Hourglass either. Before Ganondorf died in the Wind Waker he sealed his Phantom Form in an hourglass and threw it into the Great Sea. Phantom Ganon may possibly be the main villain.
-This game takes place at sea again, but not the Great Sea. Link is washed up on the shores of a mysterious island, he awakens to the sound of a fairy’s voice. With the fairy’s help, he sets off in search of Tetra, and a way back to where they belong.
A Link to the Past
-Set many centuries after the Ocarina of Time. According to the text on the back of the game's packaging, A Link to the Past follows the adventures of Zelda's and Link's ancestors. It is probable that the title "A Link to the Past" refers to the next game released; the Ocarina of Time. The story of the Triforce and the banishment of Ganon by the seven sages is a rough outline of the story of Ocarina of Time, with some changes (the sages did not seal Ganon in whilst he was in the sacred realm). References to the Imprisoning War places A Link to the Past after Ocarina of Time in the Zelda timeline. There was also another sidenote in one of the issues with EGM that the game takes place 100 years before the events of Zelda and Zelda II.
-This game has a new Link.
-Right before the game starts, Agahnim the wizard, Ganon’s alter ego manipulated from the Sacred Realm (now known as the Dark World due to the evil Ganon spread there as he claimed the Triforce), who had achieved an important advisory role in the kingdom, gets rid of the King of Hyrule and starts searching for seven maidens, descendants of the sages, in order to send them to the Dark World and break the seal locking Ganon in the Sacred Realm. Link soon hears wind of the evil plot and begins to free the descendants of the seven sages. Eventually coming to defeat Ganon and finally destroying him.
-This game takes place in the the dried up land left from the Great Sea, presumably Hyrule, which is called Light World and the impure Sacred Realm given the title Dark World.
Oracle of Ages & Oracle of Seasons
-Where these games stand in the chronology of the Legend of Zelda games is unknown, there are two places where they may slot into. Either in between Twilight Princess and the Wind Waker or after A Link to the Past.
-This game has a new Link, the same one is in both oracle games.
-Ganon is not a main villain so much in this game but is being revived by the witch Twinrova (Kotake & Koume). Which leads me to believe that it cannot take place to far away from Ocarina of Time. Ganon appears in his human form in the Wind Waker aswell. The Oracle games taking place before the Wind Waker may explain why Ganondorf is not still in his monsterous form of Ganon, note that Twinrova were reviving Ganondorf and not Ganon in the Oracle games.
-However there is some contradiction as in the Oracle of Seasons, it featured the mini-boss Agahnim. Agahnim is only seen later in the Legend of Zelda Series in A Link to the Past. However there is some speculation as to weather this is the same Agahnim from A Link to the Past due to the difference in his appearance. Another point that adds to the argument of the games being after A Link to the Past is that in A Link to the Past, Ganon actually loses the Triforce and thus becomes mortal. This is where he is actually killed. And so the resurrection of Ganondorf must take place after A Link to the Past.
-These two games take place in two places; Holodrum and Labrynna, which although are fairly large, could be islands in the Great Sea. This would also depend on when the flooding by the Gods had occured. After looking at the game map for the Oracle of Seasons though, the layout of Holodrum looks distinctly similar to the layout of the new Hyrule in A Link to the Past.
HELP ME FILL IN WHERE THE OTHER LEGEND OF ZELDA GAMES GO!!
Or if you believe that the order I have listed is wrong, feel free to post yours here!!
Till then, happy Ganon slaying...
