yes, it is a shame that the DS only plays GBA games. The great thing with backwards compatibility is you get tons of cool games as soon as a console is relesed, just you already have em....

lol i think the x/circle/square/triangle thing is for delinquants (e.g. chavs) as they can't understand a simple "A/B"
also another topic, don't u think it would be harder for dislexic people to use a controller with symbols rather than letters.

Yes delinquents Dont understand the "A/B X/Y" concept do they? It would have been good if they had changed the logos for circle and stuff on the new ps3 controllers.

they wernet taken from a controller but they are infact universal japanese symbols which goes to show how sony dont care about any other market other than the japanese one. heres the actual meanings:
Cross (batsu) = "no good" The meaning of this symbol is more or less the same as in the West. It is sometimes drawn twice to indicate a severe problem.
Triangle (sankaku) = "weak" OR "average" The meaning of this symbol depends on the context. If only 3 symbols are used (Ο, Δ and ×), then this symbol means "average", but if the double circle (niju maru) symbol also appears, then this symbol means "below average"
Circle (maru) = "good" OR "satisfactory" This symbol is also context-sensitive. If the double circle symbol also appears, then this symbol means "satisfactory", otherwise it means "good". Japanese teachers normally draw circles instead of ticks when marking correct answers in students' test papers.
Double circle (niju maru) = "excellent" This symbol is sometimes called a bullseye. It represents the ideal condition.
they probably changed the double circle into a square because they wanted to keep it simple

yeh i always thought they thieved it from the old megaman arcade game Willy wars were you needed a certain amount of battery power to use a certain attack
Cross=weakest attack 1 quarter full
Triangle=below average attack 2 quarter's full
Circle= above average attack 3 quarter's full
Double Circle= super ultimate attack completely full.

no obviously capcom used it as it was a japan only arcade machine so the symbols were to them universally known and made sense.(the reason i know it was japan only is because it is only found in japan i have never played the arcade version but have played the version that came out on the sega mega-drive).
